TRANSFERS

Image transfer was one of the top favorite assignments in my classes and in my personal work. After two semesters learning their cameras and darkroom or digital work, the transfer assignment introduced students to combining one artform with others for something new.

In this case we transferred color slides to Polaroid peel-apart film and then transferred that wet emulsion to a variety of materials. The final step was to add pencil, paint, ?, and/or remove some emulsion for a desired effect. It was a very unpredictable process, creating one-off images, teaching the idea of accepting some loss of total control. What Vonnegut would call “happy accidents”. Here are some of mine.
